KUALA LUMPUR: For the next five days, they will be covered in dirt and mud. They will have leeches and other creepy crawlies for company.

These are the 32 participants of the X-Men Xtreme Adventure 2009 Terengganu who will be in the jungles of Terengganu until May 4.

The jungle adventure, organised by the X-Men Adventure founder, Rate de Silva, will bring enthusiasts of extreme 4x4 sports to face challenges as they make their way through the legendary Elephant Mudhole and Terminator Hill in Hulu Terengganu.

Most of the participants are from Britain, United States, Australia, Japan, Thailand and Singapore.

The trail will take them through 500km of jungle terrain comprising swollen rivers, mud, slippery slopes and wildlife.
"The idea is to bring these 4x4 sports lovers together in one of the toughest routes in Malaysia," de Silva said.

"It is also to promote tourism in Malaysia. Most of the participants are expected to stay on for a few days after the event."

The convoy, which comprised 12 vehicles, was flagged off from the Anjung Riong driveway of the New Straits Times office in Jalan Riong, Bangsar here by the newspaper's group editor Datuk Syed Nadzri Syed Harun.
